Construction:
Present Continuous: form of ‘be’ and verb + ing
= I am doing, you are doing, he is doing, etc …
Present Simple: infinitive = I do, you do, we do, you do, they do.
(3rd person singular: infinitive + ‘s’) = He does, she does, it does.
Keywords for:
Present Continuous:
at the moment, at this moment, today, now, right now, Listen!, Look!,
Present Simple:
always, every, often, normally, sometimes, seldom, never, first, then, usually.
Exception: only a Present Simple form: be, have, know, like, love, see, smell, think, want.
Near Future or Timetable-Schedule?
Near future? Continuous: I’m going to the cinema tonight.
Timetable, schedule? Simple: The film starts at 8 pm.
limited period of time, or Daily routine?
limited period of time? Continuous: Jane is working in a café this week end.
Daily routine Simple: Peter works in a restaurant.
